Running Group with Emma
Our running group with Emma will be starting this Saturday 24th March. Running groups will be held every Saturday morning between 8am - 9am. The group is free for members, or $15 for non-members to attend.
The running group is open for absolutely everybody - you don't need to be an elite athlete or a born runner to participate! In fact the group caters for people of all levels of experience and fitness, with a focus on participating and learning some fantastic new skills while improving your fitness - all in a comfortable, friendly, and supportive environment.
The group will run come rain, hail or shine - you'll find us on a Saturday morning outside the Baths ready to take place and enjoy anything that nature sends our way!
Emma lets us know a little more about herself and about the running group in this mini interview:
WHAT WILL THE RUNNING GROUP INVOLVE?
We'll work on some running drills to improve efficiency and technique. We'll also do some different styles of running including interval training. The groups will also include run-specific strength and conditoning work to keep everybody injury free, and improve your running capability.
WHO WILL THE RUNNING GROUP BE SUITED TO?
Everybody! All members and guests are welcome from people who are getting into running for the very first time, right through to those who are wishing to compete at a higher level. Everybody can work at their own pace, in their own time, in the comfort of a friendly, supportive environment.
WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND OR EXPERIENCE AS A RUNNER?
I've run and trained for lots of different races, starting with the Sussan Womens Classic 5km run - and then I caught the running bug! Since then I've competed in the Run Melbourne, the Run for the Kids, the Melbourne Marathon, and many more Sussan Classics. I normally run three times a week, varying distances between 6-14km depending upon what's coming up.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT RUNNING?
I love the sense of freedom that you get when you are running. I love that you can run outside in the fresh air, amongst nature. And I love that you don't need to be the fastest runner - it's about participating and giving it a go.
FAVOURITE RUNNING SONG?
The Foo Fighters "Best of You".
FAVOURITE RUNNING TRAIL?
The tracks between Sandringham and Beaumauris - you could be anywhere in the world.
BEST RUNNING EXPERIENCE?
The Melbourne Marathon - both the best and worst experience! It was very humbling to have a gentleman who looked well over the age of 60 beat me just at the finish line. It was wonderful to see such a huge demographic of people participting, and it was really challenging mentally and physically. It really showed me that running isn't about being born with natural talent - it's just about having the will to succeed and get it done.
